Roberts and Recchi a Good Fit For Ottawa

I know that Ottawa has much bigger needs than a couple of past-their-prime warriors, but down in Tampa, Gary Roberts and Mark Recchi only make 1.25 million each this season.

With Tampa sinking even faster than the Senators, could either one of these veterans be plied away for a bargain? Perhaps for a Christoph Schubert who would be able to rejoin his best friend Andrej Meszaros in the Sunshine State?

Recchi (who is having a great year and inspiring his teammates) can still skate and would look good on the second power-play unit. Roberts ... well, he's 42 and injured but he might still have one more playoff run in him.

I know, I know, it's crazy. Players like Nick Foligno and Jesse Winchester would probably get less time or even be sent to the minors.

But if Bryan Murray is going the character and experience route, he couldn't do better than these two. And they might just be available, given that Tampa seems eager to make move after move.

I'm just saying, that's all...

If we were to go on a playoff run, those 2 would be high on my list, but for right now, with the playoffs looking like a unicorn, I like letting Foligno and Winchester playing!

love the site!

Dude, I used to respect your opinion.

Recchi may be ok .. but Roberts is a relic of his former self.. In the last series with the penguins he was effective for only one game during the whole run .. I agree also that if the sens are not going deep in the playoffs .. then let the young guys develop ..

It'll never happen. Both of those guys are grizzled veterans with no connection or loyalty to Bryan Murray.

It'll take them a two weeks to figure out that the GM is at the root of the problem. They'll see that that players are not using their natural instincts, and instead are working hard to follow a system that they are not suited for.

I want Bryan Murray to be fired. So, I think it's a great idea. Murray will never do it, because he would lose the room.

Incidentally, I'm not saying that these guys would be a good move hockey wise. I think they're pretty well done, especially Roberts.

Both of those guys have "character". But it's time to "out" Murray on the character nonsense.

When Murray means character, what he really means is getting players that will do as he says, and won't ask questions.

black aces has gone downhill...the previous post your supported macgregor's claim that he hate creativity and that that's what is lacking and then you make a sensless post about 2 irrelevant has-beens because they have 'character', whatever the hell that means...

That's ridiculous.
We need a PMD not more old castaways... It's not pretty in Sensland.

If BM got them cheap, with some clauses related to health and performance, without giving up any talent, great. But otherwise, not a good idea. Character we have plenty of now. Skill we are lacking.

I know that prospects of making the playoffs look bleak right now, but man, these guys are not the answer. Recchi would be the Cory Stillman redux, and the less said about Roberts the better. We don't need another off-ice mentor on the roster.

Apparently the OTERs have expanded to commenting on BLOGS nowadays, and not just calling the TEAM to flirt with Kulka.

Lame.

You are the Sean Avery of Sens Bloggers, Jeremy. Way too much controversy for quiet ol' Ottawa. Next train leaves at noon. j/k. cheers.
